What is The Best Time to Visit Grenada

The best time to visit Grenada is from January to May, when it’s the driest. December to April is the peak season with the best weather, but keep in mind that prices for accommodations and flights are typically higher during this time. Avoid September and October due to hurricane season. We visited Grenada in June, and we experienced only one day of rain; the rest of the time was filled with sunshine.

How To Get To Grenada

Grenada is a pretty island located between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. It’s at the bottom of the Grenadines chain of islands. If you look at a map, it’s in the top left corner. The best way to reach Grenada is by flying into the Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND), located near the capital city of St. George’s.

Additionally, Grenada is a popular port of call for many cruise lines operating in the Caribbean, so you can also arrive by cruise ship. Ferries are also available from Carriacou and Martinique, and you can check the schedule here.

One of the coolest things about Grenada is that it hardly ever gets hurricanes, making it a great destination year-round. Even when we visited during hurricane season, the weather was awesome! So, you can plan your trip without worrying about bad weather.

Where to Stay in Grenada

In Grenada, the options for beautiful resorts and hotels are plentiful, with choices ranging from luxurious all-inclusive options like the Royalton Grenada to charming beachfront resorts like Kalinago Beach Resort. During our stay at Kalinago Beach Resort, we were treated to breathtaking sunsets every evening, while the resort’s pool offered a peaceful retreat with stunning beach views. For those craving adventure, kayaks were available for rent to explore the private hotel beach. And the culinary delights served at the on-site restaurant added an extra layer of enjoyment.

3. Strolling Through St. George’s Town

One of our favorite activities was strolling around St. George’s town. It felt like stepping into a living postcard, with vibrant colors and beauty everywhere you looked. The buildings, boats in the harbor, and numerous inviting cafes and restaurants created a charming atmosphere. We enjoyed eating banana bread at local coffee shops and indulging in delicious meals, all while soaking in the dynamic, colorful scene.

4. Explore Fort George the Historic Gem in St. George’s

Another breathtaking spot in St. George’s town is Fort George. This historic 18th-century French fortress is definitely worth the climb. Although the hike up has many steep stairs, the panoramic vistas and colorful cityscape that greet you along the way are truly rewarding. The climb might be steep, but the stunning views make it all worthwhile, and the beauty of the scenery makes you forget just how challenging the ascent is. The only real challenge was the heat on the day of our visit, but the refreshing breeze at the top made up for it. There’s a small fee of $2 per person to enter the fort.

Inside the fort, many of the historic buildings have been repurposed into administrative spaces and a police training college, blending old-world charm with modern functionality. We were ready for a serious uphill hike, but the fort appeared quicker than expected, making the trek much more manageable. The 360-degree view from Fort George is absolutely stunning, offering a beautiful panorama of the coastline. The fort still features some old cannons pointing towards the sea, adding to its historical allure. Guides are available at the bottom of the hill to provide fascinating insights into the fort’s history.

Update February 2024: A blog reader informed us that Fort George is temporarily closed for maintenance. Please check for the latest updates before planning your visit.

5. St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (Scots Kirk)

When you’re wandering near Fort George, make sure to stop by St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, known as Scots Kirk. It’s not just a church—it’s a piece of history that’s stood tall for almost 200 years. Built back in 1833 by Scottish settlers who wanted their own place to worship, it’s been a lasting presence on the island.

But here’s where things get emotional. In 2004, Hurricane Ivan devastated the island, leaving Scots Kirk in ruins. The destruction was heartbreaking—only the tower and part of the southern wall were left standing. Yet, even in the face of such devastation, the community came together. They rebuilt, restoring not just the church but its spirit. The once-frozen clock, stuck at 4:15, is now fully operational, marking a new chapter in the church’s legacy.

The red-tiled roof is new, but it blends beautifully with the old stone walls, showing off a perfect mix of past and present. If you’re into photography, the views from Fort George are incredible, and Scots Kirk offers those perfect views.

St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church—it’s more than just a church—it’s a story of resilience, hope, and community. Definitely worth a visit!

With its soft, white sands and calm, clear waters, it’s ideal for sunbathing, snorkeling, and kayaking. A few charming beach bars and two inviting restaurants make it a great place to enjoy a leisurely lunch or a romantic sunset dinner. 7. Explore Grand Etang Lake: Hiking Trails and Scenic Views

Grand Etang Lake is a fascinating destination with a history that dates back 12,000 years to a volcanic explosion that formed it. True to its name, “Grand Etang” is French for “large lake,” and it lives up to the billing. This serene spot is perfect for hiking or a relaxing picnic. The lake’s calm waters, teeming with tilapia, guppy, and Japanese koi fish, can be glimpsed from the wooden jetty where swimming and fishing are prohibited to preserve its tranquility. Local legend even whispers of a magical mermaid residing in its depths! There is a small entrance fee of $2 per person to access the lake and its surrounding trails.

8. Visit the Breathtaking Annandale Waterfall

Annandale Waterfall is a breathtaking spot surrounded by lush tropical plants, standing at 30 feet high. It’s one of the easiest and most accessible waterfalls in Grenada, located just about 1.5 miles from the main road, making the hike to reach it relatively short. Along the way, you’ll find some unique local experiences that are well worth your time. We also saw towering eucalyptus trees, adding to the natural beauty of the journey.

Be sure to stop by and meet the Spice Lady—she’s amazing and offers a fantastic presentation on all the local spices. The necklaces she sells have a scent that’s indescribable; if there were a perfume with that fragrance, I’d be the first to buy it. You’ll also want to listen to the Guitar Man, who is hands down the best songwriter ever. He sees you and immediately creates a song that captures how he perceives you. You can check out our YouTube vlog from the Annandale Waterfall to hear the song he played for our family. While a small donation is encouraged, he never asks for it—it’s just a great piece of entertainment.

We also spotted a Mona monkey in a tree on our way and unfortunately saw another one in a cage. Please don’t take pictures with the caged monkey or support this mistreatment. This poor monkey shouldn’t be in a cage. As you continue to the waterfall, take in the natural beauty and lush greenery. We loved our experience, and the waterfall itself was absolutely stunning.

The thrill of discovering each hidden piece is an adventure in itself, as the sculptures are cleverly positioned and can easily be missed. To fully enjoy the experience, it’s wise to get some guidance from your captain, ensuring you don’t overlook any of the fascinating artworks beneath the surface. Finding the location of the Grenada Underwater Sculpture Park can be a bit tricky, so we wanted to share our experience. You have two options: guided tours or using local transportation, both excellent choices depending on your preference and budget.

We opted for local transportation, which was around $1 per person one way. We got off near Dragon Bay and walked to the bay, where we hired a boat for $20 per person for our whole family. Our guide, Captain Kamani, provided snorkeling masks and equipment and took us to the sculpture park. We spent the entire morning snorkeling and exploring the sculptures, some of which are absolute must-sees.

We ran into a friend at Grand Anse Beach, which is one of Grenada’s most iconic and cherished spots. This beach stretches over two miles of pristine white sand along the island’s southwestern coast. The calm, crystal-clear waters are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and a range of other water activities, making it a favorite for both locals and tourists. The views are so breathtaking that we had to get our drone out to capture the stunning scenery from above.
